Dalamar Thorne doing his best bear impression of Grima Wormtongue.

By this point in the comic, Dalamar’s design is more or less finalized. I use the word “design” pretty loosely because there was very little real design being done at the time. The break-neck pace of having to squeeze 4-8 panels of inked comic per day during Inktober (before and after my dayjob!), combined with an utter lack of any real character concepting phase, led me to rely mostly on silhouettes and other visual cues to differentiate which bear was which (E.g Greta’s Staff Sling). With Dalamar, it ended up being the sort of Tudor-style ruffle collar on display here. I like it.

Overall I think the pacing of this one works well.  Dalamar slowly leaning in, getting creepier over the course of another dialogue-heavy set of panels, before leaving the bear king with a worrying prospect. Artwise, I like the second panel in this comic the most. I’m particularly pleased with how the posing worked out, and I think Dalamar’s face, outfit and glove just really work.

But hey, I’m new to this. I don’t know from comics. What do you think? Not just about the art, but about any of this stuff? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

See you Tuesday! Jimmy loves you.
